Lena Mae Lassiter was born to Willie Luther and Audrey Brown on August 17, 1933, the fourth of eight children in Cave Spring, Georgia. The family moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1944. Lena attended Columbia Elementary School, Patrick Henry Junior High School, and John Hay High School. She married Robert Lassiter November 1951. From this marriage three sons were born.
Lena was employed at Picker X-Ray for 13 years. After Picker X-Ray she worked in the medical field until her retirement. Afterwards she worked for 12 years as a school crossing guard.
According to her family and friends, she was a firm believer in doing what is right and a “no nonsense” woman. Whose yes meant yes and no meant no wisdom was appreciated and helped shaped lives. She was always willing to help anyone in need, even if that meant giving them shelter for a while until they were back on their feet. She loved her plants and talked about them all the time, she encouraged those who was interested to take a piece and let it grow.
Lena symbolized her dedication to Jehovah by water baptism on July 25, 1959. She attended Windermere Congregation (now named Collinwood Congregation). It was her goal to never miss a meeting or special theocratic event. Many in the congregation enjoyed her hospitality, especially her Jello cake, and special salad. She truly enjoyed the door-to-door ministry where she helped many people to learn bible truths and sometimes being the last to go home.
To keep up with her spiritual routine during the recent pandemic, she was determined, she was truly determined to learn the technology used that would allow her to continue attending her meetings, the Memorial of Jesus death, assemblies, and conventions. This same technology helped her to stay active in her preaching ministry by conducting her bible studies via Zoom video conferencing. writing letters, making telephone calls, and even playing iPad games with her friends. As her health declined, she continued to share bible truths with anyone that walked through her doors. whether it was the deliverymen, nurse, Doctors. or neighbor, she even took advantage and witnessed to the telemarketers who constantly called her throughout the day.
Lena Mae Lassiter fell asleep in death on December 28, 2023, she was an exemplary and faithful Witness of Jehovah for 64 years. It was her strong faith in Jehovah and her family that gave her the strength to endure, now she awaits her wake from sleep, in the promised new world to come.
Lena was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert Lassiter, her two sons Robert D Lassiter and Barry Lassiter; one sister, Shirley Carter (Judge); four brothers, Willie Edward, Albert Brown, Gene Brown and Austin Brown.
She is survived by her Son Darren Lassiter; two sisters Joyce Brown and Noellyn (Poochie) Brown; two sisters-in-law, Mae Brown and Phillis Brown; two daughters-in-law Dian Lassiter and Sheryl Lassiter; Four grandchildren, Monay Lassiter, Dontell Lassiter, Robert Lassiter Jr. and Darren Lassiter Jr. and a host of great-great grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends.
